Methylation arrays

Michael Verbiest
Research Technician, Coordinator Arrays
Since the introduction of the Illumina 450K array, we have provided methylation array services. Methylation arrays enable the quantitative analysis of selected methylation sites across the genome and studies can provide significant insights into the regulation of gene expression.
An affordable solution for genome-wide methylation.
In 2016, Illumina introduced the MethylationEPIC array as the successor to the 450K array. It offers comprehensive coverage of CpG islands, genes, and enhancers. The array includes around 930,000 unique methylation sites in important regions of the human methylome. Run in multiples of 8, EPIC version 2 serves as a cost-effective, high-throughput solution for studying disease mechanisms. The array is compatible with whole blood, saliva, and FFPE sample types, making it ideal for cancer research and classification.
Methylation Screening Array.
A tool for population health research.
The MSA is an affordable option for population health research. It provides valuable information on common diseases in human populations. The array covers approximately 270,000 unique methylation sites relevant to genetic diseases, environmental exposures, aging, and development. It is processed in batches of 48 samples.
We currently run EPIC v2 and MSA arrays. Our services routinely include bisulfite conversion and technical quality control of methylation data. Extended data analysis services - such as advanced QC and normalisation - are not included in the standard methylation package but are available upon request.
