About

Our story

The Human Genomics Facility and the Erasmus Center for Biomics have joined forces to form the Genomics Core Facility of Erasmus MC. By combining our expertise, infrastructure, and resources, we provide a comprehensive range of high-throughput genomics services that bridge research and clinical applications.

We have always placed a strong focus on innovation, continuously integrating new genomics technologies to support clinical services, research projects and, in particular, large-scale population studies. Over the years, our team has valued close collaboration within Erasmus MC while also seizing opportunities to expand internationally.

Leading roles in the European GSA Consortium and the Methylation Array Consortium have strengthened our position in global genomics research. We have facilitated the translation of advanced genotyping technologies into clinical applications and pioneered new methods, including our in-house Medseq epigenetic sequencing, Olink proteomics, and Nanopore long-read sequencing.

These developments have fostered international collaborations and enabled us to contribute to important breakthroughs in the field.

Enabling scientific progress and improvement of healthcare by offering advanced genomics services and expert support.

Vision

We support genomics research and its clinical applications. With strong connections to the scientific and clinical fields of genomics, we offer excellent services to advance this work. Our long-standing involvement in genomics research through large collaborative networks helps us stay at the forefront of the field.

We are committed to continuous development and innovation, believing that our efforts can lead to significant improvements in healthcare.

Scientific collaborations

The Genomics Core Facility plays an active role in major scientific collaborations and cohort studies, including the Rotterdam Study and Generation R, both highly regarded for providing key insights into health determinants and genetic diversity. It also participates in initiatives like the GOALL project, which supports the integration of genetic data into clinical practice, and the Genome of Europe, a major collaborative effort focused on creating a high-quality reference database for European populations.
