Some of you may already be familiar with the Olink Flex panels - a flexible solution for creating customised protein biomarker panels. Recently, Olink expanded this offering with additional predefined Flex panels, providing convenient, ready-to-use options for commonly studied research areas. The Erasmus MC Genomics Core Facility offers Olink Flex services with both customised and predefined panels to researchers inside and outside the Erasmus MC.
Olink Flex is a customisable, targeted proteomics platform based on Olink’s Proximity Extension Assay technology. It allows researchers to select and combine up to 30 protein biomarkers from a predefined library of approximately 200 validated protein assays, covering a range of research areas. This flexibility makes it possible to tailor protein panels to fit the exact needs of your study, focusing on the most relevant biomarkers for your research question.
In addition to fully customised Flex panels, Olink offers a selection of predefined Flex panels. These ready-made panels provide focused solutions for commonly studied biological processes and disease areas. They are built using validated protein assays from the Olink Flex library and can be used as-is. Each predesigned panel includes a curated selection of up to 30 proteins relevant to specific research fields such as: Inflammation, Cytokine Storm, Immuno-oncology, Aging and inflammation and Metabolic disease. Powered by Proximity Extension Assay (PEA) technology, the predesigned Flex panels offer the same high specificity, sensitivity, and absolute quantification as custom Flex panels.
The Olink Flex panels complement other Olink platforms like Explore for large-scale proteomics and Target 48 and 96 for disease- or pathway-specific panels. Flex is designed for studies that require a smaller, carefully selected set of proteins. Like Target 48, it offers absolute quantification, ensuring precise, reliable data.
As part of the global Olink proteomics service provider network, the Erasmus MC Genomics Core Facility offers a comprehensive portfolio of Olink proteomic solutions. Depending on the scope, scale, and specific aims of your research project, you can choose from a range of assays, including high-throughput and large-scale options such as Explore HT and Reveal, targeted solutions like Target 96 and Target 48, and more flexible platforms including Flex and Focus. These services are available to both Erasmus MC researchers and external clients.
PEA enables the simultaneous measurement of dozens to hundreds of proteins in a single assay. Developed by Olink, it is a highly sensitive and specific technology for multiplex protein biomarker analysis. PEA is designed to measure multiple proteins simultaneously in small-volume biological samples, such as plasma or serum, offering accurate, high-throughput, and reproducible results.
